Irrigation System Shut-Down

End of the season irrigation system shut-off is happening now.  Even though the weather fluctuates often this time of year, it is now time to be blowing out and shutting down the system.  With freezing temperatures upon us, people often worry about their system freezing with any leftover water in their system pipes.  With an extensive and extended hard freeze, any remaining water leftover inside the pipes can freeze can cause extensive damage.

Kohler Lawn & Outdoor’s Professionals Are Equipped To Help You Shut Down Your Irrigation System

But what customers don’t understand is that it takes many weeks of solid freezing temperatures for the ground to freeze deep enough, to have an effect on their irrigation system.  Sprinkler pipes and various operating components are most at-risk when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and stay in that low range for many weeks. Most sprinkler systems are 12-18 inches under the ground and the ground freezes at a rate of one inch per week of solid freezing temperatures. While some parts of the system are above that depth, water only settles in the deeper pipes.

Irrigation systems need routine maintenance, and to be correctly blown out, turned off, and insulated during the cold months.  Performing these services is best done by a professional, and is not recommended as a homeowner DIY approach.  One small mistake in a DIY approach can lead to a non-functioning system, and either expensive repairs are necessary to get it functioning again, or a complete re-install of a new system will be required to replace a broken one.

Our experts at Kohler Lawn & Outdoor schedule maintenance and winter shut-off routes for our irrigation customers.  We want to reassure our customers that at this time of the year, our experts will make sure your system is taken care of and no damage will occur from freezing temperatures, and we are committed to making sure all our customer systems are properly maintained and shut off along the route.
