Start Turf Treatment Now for a Weed Free Lawn All Summer

Now is the time to begin turf treatment with Kohler Lawn & Outdoor.  When the soil temperature at the surface reaches 55°F for four or five consecutive days, crabgrass begins to germinate. Seeds germinate from early spring to late summer. We want to apply pre-emergent as soon as it starts in early spring because once it seeds, one plant can produce 150,000 seeds that will stay around for the next season. 

Customers of our Turf Treatment Program enjoy a beautiful, weed free lawn throughout the year. Here’s what you can find in our six round treatment program: 

Round 1 – Applied late February to early April, is pre-emergent application for crabgrass and foxglove, including a balanced rate of granular fertilizer and spot weed control.

Round 2 – Begins early April to late May.  It is a second pre-emergent to control crabgrass, foxtail, broadleaf, and existing weeds, along with liquid nitrogen.

Round 3 – In late May to late June, we apply a granular insecticide with a balanced rate of fertilizer controlling surface-feeding insects such as aphids, sod webworms, fleas, and ticks. Broadleaf weed control is applied as needed at this time.

Round 4 – Finishing the summer season in late June through early August, we apply a granular grub control to prevent root damage to the lawn.

Round 5 – The first fall treatment is in late August through late October.  Broadleaf weed control is applied with a balanced rate of fertilizer.

Round 6 – The final standard application is a heavy rate of nitrogen fertilizer applied in November or December. 

We also offer two optional treatments for our turf program customers: a fungicide treatment applied in mid-April to prevent and cure disease such as brown patch, and a lime treatment that can be applied in Mid-May to Mid-June to balance the soil nutrients and break up hard, compact soil. The timing of fungicide is critical and in some cases a third application is necessary to keep turf in premium condition.
